No shaft in the bag reacts to a tip trim more dramatically than a driver shaft — the tip section is long, light, and does most of the loading during the downswing. A fraction of an inch off that end changes how the whole club releases.
Every Swing, Logged Against the Cut
We start by frequency-testing your current driver shaft uncut, then test demo shafts at different trim lengths on the launch monitor, capturing ball speed, launch angle, spin rate, spin axis, and attack angle on every swing.
From there we map how your delivery interacts with tip stiffness: a driver shaft trimmed too short for your tempo can spike spin and balloon shots, while one trimmed too aggressively can feel boardy and cost feel at impact without adding any real speed. Every recommendation traces back to a specific reading from your session.
What Actually Changes in a Driver Fitting
Tip Trim Length
The single biggest lever on tip stiffness for a given shaft model. We test in half-inch and quarter-inch steps against your baseline frequency reading to find the window that suits your transition.
Loft & Face Angle
Adjustable hosels let us dial loft in half-degree steps. A negative attack angle usually calls for more static loft than the number stamped on the head, independent of trim.
Shaft Weight
Weight shapes swing timing alongside trim length. We test across weight classes to find the combination with the most repeatable strike before finalizing the cut.
Head Design & MOI
Moment of inertia determines how forgiving a head is on off-center strikes. Higher-MOI heads resist twisting on mishits; lower-MOI heads often suit players who shape shots on demand.
Length
A shorter, better-controlled driver frequently outperforms a longer one on center-strike percentage, which usually beats a few extra yards of theoretical max distance.
Grip Size
An oversized or undersized grip changes hand action through impact, which can quietly shift face angle at contact. We check grip size on every driver fitting.
What a Driver Trim Can Fix
The Slice
A left-to-right spin axis tilt is usually a face-to-path issue, but a stiffer tip trim can reduce curvature meaningfully while you work on swing mechanics.
Low, Knuckling Shots
A tip trimmed too aggressively for your transition can under-load and knuckle the ball out of the air short of its potential. Backing off the trim length often restores launch.
Ballooning in the Wind
Excess spin sends shots up and back. A firmer tip trim, sometimes paired with reduced loft, flattens the flight and holds up better in wind.
Inconsistent Strike Location
If your dispersion pattern shows strikes scattered across the face, a higher-MOI head paired with the right trim and length can shrink that pattern significantly.
